Student Work Programs

Are you interested in learning applicable skills and developing your leadership during your time at college? Check out the descriptions below and feel free to email the supervisors of each area with any questions you may have. We are always looking for new, passionate student employees!

• Shenandoah Outdoor & Adventure Recreation, you can plan and lead outdoor adventure trips, seminars, and workshops, and learn life-saving Wilderness First Aid Skills working for SOAR, contact suoutdoors@svztur.com for more information. 
• Intramural Sports, you will referee and staff Intramural Sports events and programs under the supervision of Matt Levy (mlevy@svztur.com).
• Brandt Student Center Fitness Center & Game Room, you will work as a Desk Attendant, signing people in, maintaining equipment, and enforcing policies & procedures under the supervision of Matt Levy (mlevy@svztur.com).
• SUFiT Certified Personal Trainer, you will have the opportunity to work with students, faculty, and staff to help them obtain their fitness and wellness goals.  If you are not currently certified, but interested in becoming certified, please contact Matt Levy at mlevy@svztur.com.
• Brandt Student Center, you will help students and visitors better enjoy their time on campus at the Information Desk, assist with event setups, and manage events in the Student Center. For more information, contact Alex Johnson at alexandra.johnson@svztur.com.
• Marketing and Communications, you have the opportunities to shoot and edit photos, work with your peers to market their programs, hone your graphic design skills, and get the word out about Student Life programs. If you’re interested in working for marketing and communications, contact studentlife@svztur.com.
• Campus Activities Network (CAN), you will plan programs like bingo, craft nights, and movie nights. If you’re interested in working for CAN, contact can@svztur.com.
• Student Government Association (SGA), you can shape campus policy and advocate for the needs of students. If you’re interested in getting involved in SGA, contact sga@svztur.com.

Benefits of working with the Office of Student Leadership and/or Campus Recreation and Wellness include; leadership training and opportunities, free certifications, professional development seminars, opportunities to attend professional conferences and lots of free food.

Shenandoah University has three types of work programs for students:

• Federal Work-Study
• Institutional Work-Study

These programs are awarded by the Financial Aid Office. These programs are based on need, which requires each student to file a FAFSA form. The average award for a semester is $1,000. A normal workweek consists of 6 to 10 hours.  Students receive paychecks twice a month. This money can be used at the student’s discretion.

Students who are awarded Work-Study positions by the Financial Aid Office are required to go online and select positions they are interested in working. Once a supervisor selects a student, they will have to paperwork to Human Resources. Students should check their email regularly for details.
